You need to be able to trust your dentist to keep your children’s teeth healthy, listen to your concerns, reliably provide the services you need, and have the broad experience needed to identify and treat various dental health issues as early as possible to keep them from worsening. We’re proud to say that Dental Wellness of Portland is that choice.
What Do Family Dentists Actually Do?
As a family dentist, Dr. Kim has years of experience working with children, teenagers, young adults, middle-aged adults, and seniors and is familiar with what to watch for and how to treat common problems for people of all ages. Broadly speaking, this breaks down into a mix of preventative and general dental care.
Services such as regular 6-month exams, cleanings, x-rays, and sealings are examples of preventative care that, intuitively enough, prevent serious dental problems from occurring in the first place. On the other hand, more reactive general dental services such as fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, and bondings are examples of what we can do to help once dental problems have taken root.
We also offer general dental advice that our patients find helpful. Things like the best techniques for flossing and brushing, pointing out spots that appear to be missed based on your exams, and generally supporting you and your smile are at the heart of what we do as a family dentistry practice.
To put it more succinctly, we:
- Perform exams and cleanings every 6 months
- Provide general dental advice
- Provide dental care for acute issues
- Offer a reliable and trustworthy source of information for all your dental questions
- Refer you to vetted specialists for care outside the scope of our practice
What Does it Mean to Be a Family Dentist?
As fully licensed and qualified dental health professionals, our care team members are certified as dentists (Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.)) or hygienists (Registered Dental Hygienist (R.D.H)). But being a family dentistry practice is about more than degrees and certifications. It’s about being able to relate and communicate with a wide range of people about their dental health. We strive to meet people where they are and help them achieve their oral health goals.
We do this by providing all the basic care you need. This includes
How Often Do You Need Dental Care?
Across the dental healthcare industry, it’s widely agreed that patients should get exams and cleanings every six months. With this level of frequency, we can monitor for cavities before they require root canals and, hopefully, before they even require fillings. This also gives us ample opportunity to clean your teeth, preventing bacteria colonies from causing significant damage.
